held his position. St. Simper and Ironside followed the leaders into the back straight and on to the half-mile. Valid dropped out when he made another bad leap at the second to last hurdle, and St. simper took the lead on the home turn, where Ironside was also moving forward. Ironside had too much finishing speed for St. Simper, which just lasted to beat Irish Saint for second. Irish Saint had seven horses in front of him starting the last half-mile, and his placing was meritorious. Black Wealth also made up ground for fourth a length and a half back. The weakening Full Tilt was a close fifth, ahead of Gipsy Boy and Valid. Black Tartan lost his rider at the first jump. Win For Master Bobs Master Bobs ran into a clear lead near the half-mile in the Pentlow Hack Handicap and ran the race out strongly to win decisively by a length and a half from Weewyn, which had been handy all the way. St. Truin, Master Bobs, Weewyn, Cosmopolitan, and Great Art formed the leading bunch over the first two furlongs, but Master Bobs ran clear near the halfmile and led to the straight from Great Art, Low Tide, and Weewyn.

Great Art was one of the first beaten in the leading bunch and none of the others could challenge Master Bobs, which increased his lead slightly over the last furlong. Weewyn beat Low Tide, the favourite, by a length for second, both horses having every chance. There was just as much merit in Girleen’s effort to get up for fourth, a length behind Low Tide, as she was well back in the field starting the last half-mile. Royal Kara also did.well to finish fifth. She swung sideways just as the field was sent away. She did not lose much ground, but probably enough to cost her a chance of being placed.
