CLOSE FINISH AT WASHDYKE.—Hunter’s Choice (nearest the camera) had a slight lead near the post in the Claremont Handicap at the South Canterbury Hunt Club’s meeting at Washdyke on Saturday, but in a photo-finish the outside horse, Maritea, gained the decision by a nose. The Tongs (all white colours) was beaten by a nose for third place by Battle Ensign, whose head is showing on the outside. Other horses in the picture, from left, are Travesty; Taj, and Trinidad (head showing). This photogranh was taken from directly behind the winning post, but on a slight angle.
