STATE MATERNITY RESULTS

RED CROSS SOCIETY REDCLIFFS-MT. PLEASANT SUB-CENTRE Mrs W. Tisch (president) presided at the July meeting of the RedcliffsMount Pleasant sub-centre of the Red Cross Society. Miss E. B. Orbell, who was until recently in charge of a school of nursing in New Delhi, described the living conditions in the Indian villages where the nurses worked.

Miss Orbell emphasised the need for food, particularly dried milk, to feed the people in South-east Asian countries.

It was decided to give £lO to the North Canterbury centre to spend on dried milk, £5 for India, and £5 for Malaya.

Reports of visits paid to women patients in the Burwood Hospital and to disabled former servicemen in their own homes were given.

Members were thanked for their assistance with the street collection for welfare work among the aged. Offers of help in preparing vegetables for the Good Neighbour Service during August were received.

Supplies of wool arid material to be made into children’s clothing were distributed. A quantity of knitted and sewn clothing was handed in for the North Canterbury centre to send overseas.
