CHURCHILL HANDICAP TO MERRYWA

(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 12. The second day of the Avondale Jockey Club’s winter meeting was held yesterday in fine weather. The track was very heavy. The totalisator on the course handled £105,891 15s (including £12,547 5s in doubles). The total for the meeting was £360,505 ss, compared with £421,097 15s last year—a decrease of £60,592 10s. When Royal Manner fell in the Plunket Handicap, his jockey, D. J. O’Sullivan, suffered shock and bruises. He was taken to hospital. An inquiry was adjourned until O’Sullivan can give evidence.
