WARNING FOR DR. RHEE

NEW YORK, June 22. Mr Lester Pearson, President of the United Nations General Assembly, in a blunt message to Dr. Rhee, said today that the Korean people would suffer “first and most” if South Korea refused to co-operate with the .United Nations.

Mr Pearson told Dr. Rhee in a cablegram that he was shocked by Dr. Rhee’s release of North Korean prisoners. He said that Dr. Rhee’s action was “a threat to a peaceful solution in Korea,” and he called for South Korean co-operation with the United Nations in its peace effort. Mr Pearson said that the release of prisoners was particularly shocking because it was a breach of the principles laid down by the armistice negotiators after two years of persistence by the United Nations Command.
