Carnegie Grant To N.Z. University £22,000 TO BE SPENT IN FIVE YEARS (New Zealand Press Association/ WELLINGTON, June 24. The Carnegie Corporation of New York has made a £22,000 grant to the University of New Zealand for the encouragement of social science research in the constituent colleges. The grant is to be spent over five years. The grant is an outcome of the visit to New Zealand last year of the vicepresident of the corporation (Mr J. W. Gardner), who investigated possible fields of research. A committee has now been set up by the University of New Zealand to administer the grant Its members are the Vice-Chancellor of the University (Dr. G. A. Currie), and Professors W. P. Morrell (Otago), H. E. Field (Canterbury), C. G. F. Simkin (Auckland), E. Beaglehole, and H. Belshaw (Victoria). The committee, which contains representatives of the history, education, economics, and psychology departments of the four colleges, will hold its first meeting early next month to decide on principles governing the use of the money. The following month a second meeting will be held to consider specific projects.
