SALTWATER CREEK SCHOOL

TEACHER WITHDRAWN BY BOARD The Saltwater Creek School in North Canterbury is virtually closed. The Canterbury Education Board this week has been obliged by a ruling of the Education Department to withdraw the certificated teacher, who has held a relieving position at Saltwater Creek, because the few pupils on the roll do not qualify for a teacher. The Education Board is endeavouring to secure the services of an uncertificated teacher and so maintain a grade I school, but it is considered unkely that such a teacher will be available.

Sefton and Leithfleld are the nearest schools which Saltwater creek children can attend, and as no school bus service at present passes that way parents will have to make their own arrangements in the meantime. The withdrawal of the teacher has been delayed as long as permitted in the hope that more pupils could be found for Saltwater creek.
