RUBBER WORKERS’ WAGES

ARBITRATION COURT HEARS CLAIM FOR INCREASE

(Neto Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, June 22. Wage increases up to £2 10s a week were asked for by the advocate for rubber workers in the Wellington Industrial District (Mr A. J. Neary) in the Court of Arbitration today. Mr Neary said that the increase was warranted, as the annual lay-off in the three New Zealand tyre factories made the industry seasonal. Mr W. J. Mountjoy, who appeared for the employers, opposed the application. He said that wages in the rubber industry were higher than those in many other manufacturing industries. Judgment was reserved.
