ARMY MEETING IN KOREA

PERFORMANCE BY N.Z, TROOPS

(N.Z. Army Information Service) KOREA, June 20. New Zealanders, in competition with men from four other Commonwealth countries, did well to gain a first and two other placfngs at the Ist Commonwealth Division’s athletic championships yesterday. For the;,competing athletes the war took second place as they vied for championship honours on an excellenty-prepared track just a few miles south of the battlefront. A stocky, muscular entrant from the 16th New Zealand Field Regiment, Gunner Roy Manga (Ruatorla), gave New Zealand its only win—in the hop, step, and jump. Manga also did well in the shot put and the broad jump, in which he was fourth. DriVer B. Bush (Napier), from the No. 10 Company, R.N.Z.A.S.C., was third in the shot put, and Driver W. H. Stone (Wellington), also of No. 10 Company, was third in the javelin Throw.
