DECISION ON BUS ROUTE

COMMENT BY TRANSPORT BOARD’S CHAIRMAN

“I could say: 'Why not leave the job to us?’ ” remarked the chairman of the Christchurch Transport Board (Mr F. L. Brandt) yesterday, commenting on a decision of the Metropolitan Licensing Authority not to allow alterations to the St. Albans-Spreydon bus route at the Spreydon end. “We think we know the job, and do it to the best of our ability,” Mr Brandt added. Officials of the board knew what they were doing and put nothing before the authority which was not in the best interests of the service to the public, he said. “It almost invariably happens that when any change is proposed anyone likely to be adversely affected makes representations to the authority,” said Mr C. C. Holland. “Those likely to benefit do nothing, and so only one side is represented, and it is apparently those representations which influenced the decision.”
