M.E.D.’S BIG ORDER FOR CABLE

HANDLING OF WAITAKI POWER

Underground cable to be used in laying half of the new feeders between the State Hydro-electric Department’s Papanui sub-station and the M.E.D.’s Waimairi main district sub-station at the corner of Winter’s and Grimsey’s roads was ordered by the City Council last evening. The successful tender of £21,983 by Amalgamated Wireless, Ltd., for 7000 yards of .25 inch cable was accepted, although it was £483 higher than the lowest of 10 tenders. The cable can be delivered by November. The M.E.D. allocation of overseas exchange for this year does not include money to cover the order, and the successful tenderers have offered to provide £15,000 of exchange. The cable is required in order that the M.E.D. may work in with the plans of the State department for the delivery of power from the Waitaki generating station extension to Addington. ______________
