Temporary Cabine For De Gasperi

The Italian Prime Minister (Mr de Gasperi) indicated today that he intends to form a temporary Centre Government to last until the problems raised by the General Elections earlier this month have been solved. An official communique issued after a meeting of the Cabinet today said it had been decided to ask the new I Parliament, opening next week to ap-l prove a provisional budget for four I months.

Political observers believe that Mr de Gasperi intends to go before the new Parliament with a government of Centre technicians” which would get! formal approval This would allow both Houses to adjourn for the summer recess, and Mr de Gasperi would present his new Government to Parliament in the autumn.

Mr De Gasperi’s Centre coalition led by his Christian Democrat Party polled just under half the total votes in the General Election, but won 18 morel than half of the chamber’s 590 seats. It is not yet certain if Mr De Gasperi can count on the other Centre parties for full collaboration in the new government and without their Centre i les «s? e Christian Democrats have only 262 seats—23 less than half. Mr De Gasperi may eventually have to accept support from the Monarchist ensuring the votes of its 40 deputies.
