MOTOR VEHICLE OWNERSHIP

PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO ACT (New ’ Zealand Press Association) ’WELLINGTON. June 21. The New Zealand Traffic Institute is in favour of a proposed amendment to the Transport Act, which would have the effect of making the certificate of registration of a motor-vehicle also the certificate of title to the vehicle. The major effect of the amendment, the institute says, would be to end frauds in connexion with the sale of motor-vehicles, especially cars. With a certificate of title accompanying the sale of a car, it would not be possible to conceal either the number of miles done by the car nor the number of owners nor unpaid money in respect of the vehicle. The executive of the institute, at its last meeting, considered a draft of an amending bill prepared by the New Zealand Lav/ Society and submitted for the consideration of the Commissioner of Transport, who has advised the law society that the proposals will be carefully considered with the next legislative programme.
