N.Z. AND SOUTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS
The champion bird at the Ashburton Fanciers’ Society’s winter show, which concluded on Saturday, was a black-red cock exhibited by R. H. Johnston in the Old English game fowl class. This bird won the R. H. Loy memorial cup and the society’s ribbon. New Zealand championships awarded were: best Sussex female (utility), Mrs E. W. Tippins, (Christchurch); best utility buff or cinnamon Orpington (male), C. E. Zohrab (Ashburton); best utility poultry drake, Mrs F. G. Herridge (Greenstreet); best homing pigeon hen (flown class, ringed 1952), W. Elm (Ashburton). The following Soqth Island championships were awardedbest Black Orpington, standard classes, Mrs F. G. Herridge; best Silver Wyandotte, standard classes, A. N. Barr (Christchurch); best Hamburg, standard classes, R. H. Skilling (Ashburton); best buff or cinnamon Orpington, utility, C. E. Zohrab (Ashburton); best Old English game duckwing bantam (female), R. J. Gibb (Oamaru); best cropper pigeon, F. L. Clark (Christchurch); best homing pigeon (hen), W. Elm (Ashburton).
