LANCASTER AND FORTNIGHT

NOMINATIONS FOR RICH AUSTRALIAN RACES "The Press" Special Service DUNEDIN, June 12. Lancaster and Fortnight have been nominated for the Melbourne Cup, Williamstown Cup, Cantala Stakes, and the Caulfield Cup. Both horses are trained at Wingatui by W. McEwen and J. A. Whitson. The Beau Vite four-year-old, Lancaster, which races in the colours of Mr R. L, Buchanan, is a half-brother to Fortnight by Broiefort), which is owned by Mr E. A. Poole. Their dam, Nightray, is by Nightly from Lady Eka, by Kiosk from Eka. Lancaster won two of his three races as a two-year-old, but his subsequent form was disappointing until last month, when he had an easy win in the Rosewin Hack Handicap at Washdyke. He was not placed on the first day of the recent Dunedin Jockey Club’s meeting, but' on the second day he beat Tiles by three lengths in the Southern Hack Handicap. He finished fourth in the Domain Handicap on the final day of the meeting. Fortnight had one start as a two-year-old, last season, when he finished fourth in the Stratford Juvenile Handicap. At his only appearance this season, he finished well, after being one of the last away, for a decisive win in the Trial Stakes on the first day of the recent Wingatui meeting.
