U.S. INTEREST IN CORONATION

FRONT PAGE NEWS IN NEW YORK

(Rec. 11.45 p.m.) NEW YORK, June 1.

On the eve of the Coronation, New York newspapers today gave frontpage space and devoted whole columns to the event, which has stirred the imagination of millions of Americans. In a leading article, the "New York Herald Tribune” said the Coronation ceremony was “a tradition—not static, not relegated to a museum or shrine, but given life and marching forward.” The newspaper said: “The British people have found in tradition a source of strength to which they turn in time of trial, and on which they build. The Queen’s realm has moved from an absolute monarchy to a Commonwealth; her men won with bows at Agincourt, and with tanks at Alamein.

"With that sense of continuitytypified by the panoply of the Coronation —the British and all the lands and peoples that give allegiance to the Queen, face ahead with courage,” the newspaper concluded.
