WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

Prebbleton.—The Rev. J. Freeman, of Lincoln, was the speaker at the monthly meeting of • the Prebbleton Country Women’s Institute. He told members of his impressions and observations of the Maori race gained during his term of duty as a missionary among the Maori people in the North Island. He also explained many points of interest regarding the Maori language. Mr Freeman was thanked by Mrs J. Varley, who presided. The president conveyed thanks to ail those who had contributed to the success of the recent twenty-first birthday celebration. It was decided to give the top tier of the birthday cake to the federation shop day. Competitions were won as follows:—small bloom: Mrs H. Prebble 1, Mrs Longstaffe 2, Mrs Morris 3. Greendale.—Mrs Wooster presided at the May meeting of the Greendale Women's Institute, held in the local pavilion. A report on the annual meeting of the federation was given by Mrs T. E. Warren. Arrangements were made for the twenty-first birthday party to be held in June. It was reported that a parcel was to be packed for the Institute’s sponsored girl in Greece.
