SOUTH ISLAND TITLE WON BY L. ESTERMAN

L. Esterman, of Jlokitika, won the South Island chess championship in a tournament played in Christchurch during -the week-end. He met last year's champion, R. Rasa, of Dunedin, in the last round, and overwhelmed him in a brilliant game. His wins against Watt and Broadbent were no less spectacular. Esterman is a former Wellington player now living in Jlokitika. The subsidiary tournament was won by C. Brunsden, of Timaru, scoring 5 points in five rounds. E.
