The United States has half a dozen men within fractions a 9 inch of the world record of 6ft Uin.
The last Briton to compete for an American Title was Douglas Wilson, a former mile champion, who ran in the 1951 championships.
When the championships are taking place in the United States, another team of British athletes, headed by the longdistance runner C. J. Chataway, will be competing for Eastern Canadian titles at Montreal.
Chataway is likely to meet the Canadian Don McEwen, whose 9min I.9sec for two miles was the fastest time by a British Empire athlete until last year.
