MOTOR-RACING AT DUNEDIN
ROYCROFT WINS N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIP
LEAD HELD THROUGHOUT 75-MILE EVENT

The New Zealand championship road race was won today by R. J. Roycroft, of Auckland. He drove an Alfa Romeo over the 75-mile course in 80min 45sec. Roycroft led from the start, and finished Imin 54sec ahead of R. A. Gibbons, of Wellington. The circuit was 1.75 miles of tar-sealed and gravelled road. There were six scratchings, and 22 started. A. Frost, of Levin, was third. C. A. C. Ransley. of Christchurch, crashed on the overbridge on the approach to the turn into Ward street. He was admitted to the Dunedin Public Hospital with a fractured right leg. His car was extensively damaged. E. R. Gunn, of Dunedin, drove his Morris Minor from the front mark to win
the stock car race. Another Dunedin driver, G. Paape, was second. The sports car race was won by D. G. Waters, of Dunedin, from the front mark in a Morris Minor. He was followed by J. Tutton, of Rangiora, driving an Allard J2 against a handicap of 4min 45sec. Provisional results are:— New Zealand Championship Road Race, of 75 miles.—R. J.
