STOCK EXCHANGES MARKETS MAINTAIN SOLID FRONT Markets were active on the Christchurch Stock Exchange yesterday. Business was widely spread and prices fnostly continued to move in sellers’ favour. Buyers for breweries advanced their offers for Baltins preferences and New Zealand, but sellers were not interested. Better buyers appeared for a numbei of leading miscellaneous stocks, but sellers in a number of cases did not quote. The more favourable tone of the Australian market was reflected in the upward tendency of several chain store issues. Buyers for G. J. Coles advanced their offers from 14s to 14s 3d, at which figure four parcels changed hands, and buyers were prepared to carry on at that price, but sellers were Id away. Woolworths, Ltd., were fairly active, sales taking place, up to 14s 6d, showing an advance of 3d. with furither buyers at the same figure. Buyers for Woolworths New Zealand raised their bids to 19s 4d, but sellers hung on for 19s 9d. Government loans were not very active on 'change.
