MINOR EVENTS AT ADDINGTON

ELLESMERE HANDICAP TO ROSY MORN Rosy Mom, which had returned from Auckland early in the week, gained a well-merited win at Addington on Saturday in the Ellesmere Handicap, a race restricted to probationary drivers. Warren Grattan made the pace over the last mile and a quarter, and at the straight entrance he was shading Gesticulate, Gold Relic, Dillon d’Oro, Errol’s Pal, Rosy Morn, Moreta, Alluck, Tiki Napu, and Waihi Princess. Rosy Morn had a good run through on the rails, and she finished gamely 'under a hard drive to win well by a length. There was a battle for the other platings, four horses crossing the line with little between them. Moreta, which had been pulling hard at the straight entrance, finished surprisingly well for second half a length in front of Waihi Princess, which finished with a brilliant burst once she worked clear. Dillon d’Oro, which had always been handy, was only half a length back in fourth place, just ahead of Errol’s Pal, with a gap to Gold Relic and GraticuTrue Dillon fell with just under half a mile to run, bringing down Cincinnatus. Atomic Power was badly checked. Quick Silver in Form Quick Silver, which was having her first start since joining J. G. Hampton’s team, gave a sound display of trotting to win the Holmes Handicap. The Josedale Dictator mare began well, but broke in the first furlong. She was restrained a good way from the leaders most of the way. and did not look a possibility until the field was inside the furlong. Global Voyage made the pace, and he still had charge at the straight entrance from Quendon, Metropole, Madam Grattan, Battle Royal, Sabre Dance, and Franquin, with Quick Silver showing up. Franquln appeared to have the race won until Quick Silver finished very fast wide out to beat him by a head. Franquin was a good way back most of the way. He had a good run through on the inside near the straight entrance, and he ran on well. Metropole, .which had had every chance, finished well for third. He lost his position near the straight entrance, and his placing was worth-while. Battle Royal, which did not trot as well as expected, battled on for fourth, ahead of Global Voyage, which broke near the post. Madam Grattan, Black Market, and Sabre Dance. Fearless Peter Wins Fearless Peter, having his first start since being bought for lOOOgns by Mr T. E. Elliott and trained by N. L. Berkett, gained an overdue win in the Peninsula Handicap. The lead changed several times in the early running, and there was not a very strong pace. Fearless Peter went to the front with one mile to run, and he was still pacing easily at the straight entrance, where Lauder Lass, Goldship. Young Sam, Merry Gold, Christmas Spirit and Taradale were handy. Fearless Peter, always pacing well, won by half a length. Young Sam. which had never been far away, finished strongly once he worked clear in the straight, and his placing was full of merit. He was well clear of Lauder Lass, which had every chance, Super Mission, which finished very fast in the straight. Christmas Spirit, Goldship, and Taradale. Young Sam and Taradale were among those to lose ground in the early running. Branford Beats Trotters Branford, after being slow away, finished well to win the Addington Handicap. Oaktree made all the pace, but she was beaten at the straight entrance, where General Lee was shading Branford and Executive, with Oaktree, Royal Marine, Kakahu Pride, and Beau Scott handiest of the others, and Dauphine showing up further back. Brapford soon took the measure of General Lee, and he won comfortably. Executive did well to finish second. He was a long way back soon after the start, and still had 11 horsfes in front of him with half a mile to run. He moved up smartly wide out, and he finished surprisingly well. Beau Scott, which had been well back most of the way, finished strongly for third. Dauphine, which had broken with just under four furlongs to run, was fourth, ahead of General Lee, with Royal Marine, Sir Josedale, Oaktree, Sure Phoebe, and Nelson Hall practically in line next.
