RAIL-CAR SERVICE TO OTIRA
An increased rail-car service from Christchurch to Otira, especially during the week-ends, might be expected as soon as the Railways Department received further consignments of rolling stock, said the chairman of the Arthur’s Pass National Park Board (Mt T, W. Preston) at the annual meeting Of the board.
The department had conducted two one-day excursions between Christchurch and Otira on July 26,1952, and on January 2. 1953, and both had been well patronised. When he approached the department to ask if more of these trips cotild be put on, he had been told that the service would probably be improved when new rail-cars on order arrived, Mr Preston said.
