NEW POLITICAL PARTY
N.Z. SOCIAL CREDIT LEAGUE FORMED
POLICY STATEMENT TO BE ISSUED NEXT WEEK
(New Zealand Press Association) __ „ WELLINGTON, May 12. , N ? w Zealand Social Credit Political League has been formed to compete against the present political parties. The executive of the league expects to have candidates for all 80 seats for the next General Election. The new organisation has been brought into existence to meet the general demand from all sections of the community that there should be a practical alternative to the present Parties, says the league’s secretary (Mr R- G. Young, of Hamilton), in a supplied statement. “The mood of the people is to sweep the present politicians out of office en masse, replacing them with an entirely fresh team of men and women with a sound knowledge of finance and economics,” says Mr Young. “The present party system debars the best men and women from ever entering Parliament. To overcome this serious defect, Social Credit candidates are only bound to vote as a group on the measures necessary to implement and maintain the financial mechanism of social credit. On all other matters members are free to vote according to conscience or instructions from their electorates. ‘So intense is the feeling against the present parties that without a definite platform or an appeal for funds we have in sight in eight months candidates for 20 seats. This office is now being Inundated with demands from all over the country that candidates for the full 80 seats be selected immediately. With the release of our policy statement on May 20, my executive anticipates that all seats will be manned by Christmas in readiness for a probable General Election after Her Majesty leaves the country. “The rapidly-mounting social unrest over the continual increase of living costs (which is inevitable under the present system), bearing with special severity on pensioners, those on fixed incomes, and people with young families, will have reached such a eitch that a General Election must be eld before next winter,” says Mr Young. 3 He adds that the policy statement has been discussed with many people in all walks of life and has received unanimous approval “Even the most conservative people in high executive positions who in the past have looked askance at social credit now admit that the proposals are reasonable and very attractive.
. Our policy may appear revolutionary to some people, but actually it is very conservative from a social credit standpoint. It is being put forward honestly and fearlessly in the knowledge that it is soundly based and cannot be seriously challenged, as it simply relates our monetary system to the physical facts of our material and manpower resources in New Zealand—one of the best little countries in the world, where everyone should live in happiness.”
