13 ENEMY JETS DESTROYED
RECORD BY U.S. PILOT (Rec. 11 p.m.) SEOUL, May 10. Captain Manuel J. Fernandez, an American Sabre jet pilot, became the world’s leading destroyer of MIG 15's when he shot down one and probably destroyed another, bringing his score of MiG’s "killed” to 13. Captain Fernandez broke the record of his former commander, Colonel Royal N. Baker, who shot down 12 Russian-built jets before returning to the United States early this year, the Fifth Air Force said. The 27-y ear-old pilot was on his 117th mission in Korea when he set up his new record. He will have to fly 33 missions more before completing his voluntary extended duty.
