RESPONSIBILITIES FOR FLOOD RESCUES
CATCHMENT BOARD SEEKS OPINIONS The Rangiora County Council decided yesterday to be represented at a conference to be called by the North Canterbury Catchment • Board to discuss flood rescue work and the advisability of setting up an organisation to act in such an emergency. As the result of a recent conference of catchment boards the North Canterbury board had been asked to act in conjunction with local bodies in ensuring that adequate flood rescue schemes were established in danger areas, said a letter from the board. Proper channels of communication were to be set up for relaying warnings or general advice. The board emphasised that it would supply all
possible information, but was free from the responsibility of rescue work. The council* decided to be represented at a conference where proposals for flood rescue work were to be discussed.
