SHAH AND DR. MUSSADIQ
Court Answers Broadcast (Rec. 9 p.m.) TEHERAN, April 9 The Shah of Persia hit back at Dr. Mussadiq today in reply to the Prime Minister’s broadcast on Monday, calling on the Shah to reign and not rule. A Court statement said that it was untrue that the Shah’s own appointed Senators were opposed to the Prime Minister. The Shah had appointed Senators who supported Dr. Mussadiq, and the whole Senate was influenced to give Dr. Mussadiq a vote of confidence against its own inclinations. The Shah’s decision to leave the country recently had not been taken on the Shah’s own initiative, but only after three pro-Government deputies had suggested that he should leave so that anxieties and troubles might disappear. The Shah had supported no other Prime Minister as much as he had supported Dr. Mussadiq. The Shah had no grudge against the British, but Dr. Mussadiq frequently told him that the British were his biggest enemy.
