WIGRAM WINS R.N.Z.A.F. COMPETITION Wigram won the final match of the Royal New Zealand Air Force interstation cricket competition when it beat Hobsonville on the first innings recently. Wigram thus retained the Squadron Leader G. T. Wilson memorial trophy, which it has held since 1949. Hobsonville batted first, but was unable to make much headway against the steady outswing bowling of G. R. Wallace who took six wickets for 27 runs. Wallace, who enjoyed considerable success in the earlier elimination matches, pegged the batsmen down persistently, and his ability to make the ball move back off the pitch had the batsmen in trouble. D. L. Roberts, who took two wickets for nine runs, was also on top, and Hobsonville was dismissed for 66. When rain ended played early on the second day, Wigram had scored 223 for nine wickets. The top scorer was the Canterbury representative player, A. E. L. Britton, who made 58. A. I. J. Burns scored 24, and A. D. Magee 21. C. P. Hacche (24 not out) and Wallace (23 not out) had scored 50 for the last wicket when the match was abandoned.
