STALIN’S DEATH

Sir, —I bitterly resent some of our delicate-mouthed radio commentators’ misuse of the Queen’s English in referring to Stalin’s bloody history. Murder is murder, not “liquidation” or “elimination,” even when the murderer’s victims are his friends and associates. Is it an attempt to gloss over the hideously cruel savagery •of Stalin’s version of Communism? I don’t think our radio commentators can have conversed much with refugees from gtalin, who have found freedom and safety here; and,- moreover, our commentatdfs should not feel bound to toddle at the tail of the--Bril-ish Broadcasting Corporation. History will rank Stalin with Attila and Hitler as one of the world’s most ruthless and greatest murderers and evil-doers. —Yours, etc.. MURDER WILL OUT. March 11, 1953.

Sir,—Mr Walter Nash, in paying his tribute to Stalin, appears to advocate that practising Christians should employ the same tactics in furthering their faith as Stalin did with Communism. One would imagine from Mr Nash’s statement that he is a reincarnation of the Grand Inquisitor of 500 years ago. How he must have enjoyed warming his hands at an Auto-da-Fe.—Yours, etc., COLD-BLOODED. Oamaru, March 10, 1953.
