ARCHBISHOP OWEN’S ITINERARY
The Primate and Archbishop of New Zealand (the Most Rev. R. H. Owen) began his first official visit to Canterbury yesterday. In the evening he was received at the Cathedral. This morning at 10 o'clock Archbishop Owen will visit the Cathedral Grammar School and later Christ’s College, where he will lunch with the headmaster (Mr H. R. Hornsby). In the afternoon he will drive to Timaru. where there will be a service in the evening, at which the Archdeacon of Timaru (the Ven. W. W. Averill) will give a welcome for the clergy and parishioners of South Canterbury in St. Mary’s Church. There will be a reception afterwards. A similar service and reception will be held at Ashburton on Thursday evening, when the welcome will be given by the Archdeacon of Akaroa and Ashburton (the Ven. W. T. Williams) . On Friday morning Archbishop Owen will speak to the assembly at St Margaret’s College, and after lunch with the principal, warden, master, and students of College House he will give an address. The founder’s day function at Te Wai Pounamu College will be attended by Archbishop Owen on Saturday afternoon. Next Sunday he will preach at both 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. in the Christchurch Cathedral. The Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt. Rev. A. K. Warren) will accompariy the Primate throughout his Itinerary.
