RODEO FOR AIR RACE
BUCK JUMPING AND STEER RIDING Steet riding championships, buck jumping, and archery displays, and a draught horse Derby, are among the features of the Canterbury rodeo which will be held at the Addington Show Grounds on Saturday in aid of the Canterbury International Air Race Council’s funds. The rodeo, which will be opened by the Mayor (Mr R. M. Macfarlane, M.P.) at 10 a.m., has been organised by the North Canterbury and Christchurch Young Farmers’ Clubs and the Ashburton and Christchurch Junior Chambers of Commerce. There will be a marching display by four Christchurch teams, and the archery display will be given by members of the Christchurch Archery Club. Other items in the programme will be an exhibition of cutting out cattie and working with a cattle dog, a yodelling contest, a cowboy and Indian fancy dress competition for children, and in the evening a country dance featuring square dancing. The sideshows will be in an Indian village, and there will be tractor rides, waggon rides, and rides on ponies and draught horses. -
