SPRING CREEK SHOWS IMPROVEMENT

Spring Creek, which is raced by the president of the Forbury Park Trotting Club (Mr A. Ferguson), won his second race in as many starts since joining J. Walsh’s team at Gore, when he easily beat Calamity Jane and Lady Brigade in the Surrey Handicap at Invercargill on Saturday. The previous Saturday he had established a Southland two-mile winning record for trotters of 4min 29 3-ssec.

Though he has always shown fair ability, Spring Creek has marred several winning chances by breaking. He showed no signs of breaking in his races at Invercargill, and* Walsh should have little difficulty in placing him to advantage in much stronger company than he beat there.

He is an aged gelding by Springfield Globe from Worthy Lady, by Travis Axworthy from Rosethorne. the dam of a number of winners, including Travis Thorne, Thornworthy, Colonel Axworthy, and Balalaika.
