PURCHASES OF N.Z. YEARLINGS
AUSTRALIAN MINISTER’S WARNING * (N.Z.P.A.—Reuter—Copyright) CANBERRA, March 10. The Minister of Customs (Mr N. O’Sullivan) said today that Australian purchasers of New Zealand yearlings, unable to bring them back because of import restrictions, had bought with their eyes open. “Prospective purchasers had been told that a value quota had been placed on yearlings which would be permitted to enter Australia from New Zealand,” Mr O’Sullivan said. “They were told that if the quota were exceeded, they ran the risk of not being able to bring the horses into Australia. “I am prepared to meet any deputation which seeks a review of the decision, but that does not mean we will allow the horses in," the Minister said.
