BRILLIANT RUN TO BEAT WELKIN SUN (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) MELBOURNE, March 9. Arbroath, which, on Saturday had won the St. Leger, today came with a brilliant run to take the Australian Cup at Flemington. Saxonian held the lead in the early stages, but Murray Head headed him at the seven furlongs. Arbroath swept to the front a furlong from home, and he went on to win by two lengths and a quarter. Time, Imin 38jsec. Betting: 11 to 4 Flying Halo. 5 to 1 Peshawar, 5 to 4 Hyrdogen. WELL-KNOWN OWNER’S DEATH (New Zealand Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, March 10. Mr Harold E. Guppy, a well-known Auckland racehorse owner, collapsed and died on the New Plymouth racecourse yesterday. He was 54. Mr Guppy was attending the autumn meeting of the Taranaki Jockey Club. He was the owner of the high-class two-year-old, Royal Legend, and another two-year-old which was recently sold to America, Sweet Ways. He owned a large string of horses, which were recently transferred from the stables of J. C. Bagby, at Ellerslie, to those of A. Cole, at Takanini. They included Lord Bosworth, Pharos Queen, and Green Goddess.
