TRACK WORK AT TRENTHAM

BRILLIANT SPRINT BY MISS LLOYDA TAKATU ALSO DISPLAYS SPEED "The Press" Special Service WELLINGTON. March 10. Most of the training at Trentham this morning in preparation for the second day of the Wellington autumn meeting on Saturday was of a routine nature. The . two-year-old Miss Lloyda ran a brilliant three furlongs, and Takatu also impressed over this distance. The best mile was credited to Gold Schemd and Pleasure Bent. Most of the fast work took place on the outside of the course proper, which was hard’and fast. The plough and two-year-old tracks were also available. Several of the early workers could not be timed because of fog. On the cdurse proper. Miss Lloyda (Potter) showed brilliance when she ran three furlongs in, 35sec. Miss Lloyda was a creditable third in the Plunket Nursery Handicap on the first day of the meeting. This was only her second appearance, and her first since November. She should soon improve on her latest placing. She is a black filly by Admiral’s Luck out of Army Girl, and is a sister V* Dunkirk. She is trained at Te Rapa by D. N. McInnes. Takatu (Hooton) travelled at threequarter pace from the seven furlongs to the three furlongs, and came home from there in 36 4-ssec. He hit out freely and finished full of running. Takatu spoilt his chance in the Thompson Handicap last week when he dwelt at the start. He improved slightly in the middle stages, but weakened in the run home. He is engaged in the New Zealand St. Leger Stakes on Saturday. Gold Scheme's Trial Gold Scheme (Ellis) and Pleasure Bent (Nuttall) were together throughout a mile in Imin 43sec, the last half-mile in 50 3-ssec, and the final three furlongs in 37 sec. Both worked keenly. It has not been decided whether Gold Scheme will contest «ie St. Leger or the Champion Hack Handicap on Saturday. Pleasure Bent is also a St. Leger candidate. She is a good staying filly, and won the C.J.C. Lyttelton Hack Handicap at her last attempt. Gay Minstrel (Biggs) was a length in front of Persian Gulf (Thomas), which had much the worse of the weights, at the end of seven furlongs in Imin 31 3-ssec, the last half-mile in 51 4-ssec, and the final three furlongs in 38 l-ssec. Declare (Dulieu) was under a hold throughout seven furlongs in Imin 31 l-ssec. Declare was prominent in the Thompson Handicap for seven furlongs. He should be improved with that outing, which was his first since January. Dreenagh (Stock) and Conclusion (Biggs) were not after time while running one mile in Imin 49 2-ssec, the last half in 51 2-ssec. Dreenagh ran her best race for som» time when she finished fourth in the Autumn Handicap after sharing the pace over the last half-mile. Like Conclusion, her prospects in the President’s Handicap will be enhanced if the going eases. Silverdine (Hooton) completed a mile in Imin 45 4-ssec, the last half in 51sec. He is a newcomer in the President's Handicap, in which he is weighted at 8-4. At his last attempt he was third to Akbar and Admiral’s Pay in the Franklin Cup on February 28. Livorno (Wiggins) was restrained while running three furlongs in 42 2-ssec. L?e spoilt his chance in the Plunket Nursery Handicap when he lost ground at the start. Beau Sol (Holland) was two lengths ahead of Checkmate (McFarlane) after running half a mile in 51 l-ssec. Beau Sol was a good fifth in the Tinakori Hack Handicap last week. Baithen (Biggs) completed a mile in Imin 4 74-ssec. He had little pace on early, but speeded up from the half-mile and came home in 51 3-ssec. Royal Purple (Nuttall) and Dunkirk (Carbin) were together throughout six furlongs. The last four took 51 3-ssec. Devastator (Penton) was not impressive while running half a mile in 55 3-ssec. The last three furlongs took 40 2-ssec. Pierre (Wiggins) completed pace work by sprinting from the three furlongs in 40sec. He was galloped on in the Thompson Handicap, in which he finished fifth. The injury .is not serious, and he will take his place in the Hutt Handicap. Balloch Prince (Biggs) was four lengths ahead of Stewart’s Gift (Penton) after running three furlongs in 38sec. Earldom (Wiggins) and Master Proven (Long) worked easily from the mile to the half, and then increased the pace to record 54sec. Earldom had a half-length advantage at the finish. The final three furlongs took 40sec.
