DEATH OF A DICTATOR
COMMENT BY MR ATTLEE
(Rec. 11 p.m.) LONDON. March 9. The Leader of the British Labour Party (Mr Attlee) in a reference to Stalin, said last night that the death of a dictator caused alarm throughout all the countries he dominated “The first note struck by the Government of Russia has been to ask its people for unity and calm. That was a good illustration of the difference between the autocracies and the democracies,’’ Mr Attlee told a Labour meeting at Wolverhampton. Mr Attlee said that as soon as a dictator died, everyone wondered who would succeed him. All people in prominent places looked around to see where they stood, where they would stand, or whether they stood at all.
