(Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, February 19. “By all means spank the children — but let it be on the behind, not on the hand.’’ advises the Bishop of Grantham (Dr. Anthony Otter) in his monthly magazine. “I had seven beatings as a child—once in. the study at home and. six times at school. Editorially, episcopally and personally, we are all for beating, if and when necessary. Why n °“This business of letting the little dears do what they like (called selfexpression) is just nonsense. The world is not theirs, or yours, or mine —and we cannot do what we like later on. “Let us be taught early the meaning of the do’s and don’t’s. Our parents protect us right at the start, tell us to obey the rules—little rules at first, like putting things back where you find them, folding up your clothes, speak when you ate spoken to, do as you are bid. shut the door after you. and all that. “And if we do not obey, lay it on the behind, not on the palm, of the hand.”
