TRANSPORT
Sir, —I, like “Taxpayer,” do noit doubt that the Railways Department, in Canterbury or anywhere else in New Zealand, must operate at a loss; if the transport operators are allowed to operate as they do in our area. Being m a position where I can observe the transport operators in action, I am left to wonder if even as many as 50 per cent, are licensed trips. “Taxpayer’s” letter asked: “Are the roads being watched for these drivers who cart day and night without a licence?” Mr Clifford, district officer of the Transport Department, answered this with “Yes.” If this is correct, why are they still operating?—Yours, etc., ANOTHER TAXPAYER.
