SOUTH AFRICANS 294 FOR THREE
TASMANIAN WICKETS FALL CHEAPLY (Rec. 8 p.m.) LAUNCESTON, Jan. 20. The South African opening batsmfen, McGlew and Waite, put on the highest number of runs for any wicket on this tour when they scored 164 in the first innings against Tasmania today. By lunch the South African* were ahead of Tasmania’s first innings total of 131, and well on the way to their second victory against Tasmania. Waite and McGlew did not have an unruffled time in their nartnership. both edging balls from Cowley and Hird, the fast-medium bowlers, through the slips. Neither, however, gave a definite chance. Waite was well set for his century when he was run out after trying for a sharp single and being waved back by McGlew. The wicket generally was good, but occasionally the ball rose unexpectedly.
