Minister Addresses Reinforcements
(N.Z. Army Information Service) KURE, November 10.
The fitness, smartness and soldierly appearance of the members of K Force who have returned to New Zealand have impressed the Minister of Defence (Mr T. L. Macdonald). “I do not know whether this is due to the climate or the rations,” said Mr Macdonald this morning when addressing members of the force at the New Zealand base camp at Hiro, Japan. “It was obvious that their health was in no way impaired by their experiences. I know that you too will arrive back in New Zealand looking pictures of health and worthy representatives of a great little country.” Remarking that most of the men he was addressing were reinforcements waiting to go forward to their various K Force units, Mr Macdonald said that he knew that they would be glad when the day arrived for them to join their “cobbers” in Korea. On the other hand while they were in Japan they were representing New Zealand and representing her very well, indeed. “It is grand to know this ” said Mr Macdonald, “and it will be grand for the people at home to know it We shall certainly tell them.”
