DEPUTY MEDICAL OFFICER

CHRISTCHURCH POST TO DR. H. T. KNIGHTS

A New Zealander who has been serving as a medical missionary in the Belgian Congo has been appointed Deputy Medical Officer of Health for the Christchurch-Greymouth health district. He is Dr. H. T. Knights, who will arrive at Auckland from England this month and will take up his duties in Christchurch on December 14. This advice has been received by the Medical Officer of Health for the district (Dr. D. P Kennedy). Dr. Knights, who qualified in New Zealand in 1934. has a Belgian certificate in tropical medicine and a diploma of public health from London. He went to the Belgian Congo before the Second World War as a medical missionary. During the war he served with the 3rd New Zealand General Hospital in the Middle East from 19*2 to 1943, and he commanded the 4th Field Hygiene section of the 2nd New Zealand Division from July. 1943, to December, 1944. Most of his service with the Field Hygiene section was in Italy. Dr. Knights held the rank •jf major.
