ADDINGTON MARKET

STORE SHEEP SELL WELL STORE CATTLE IN KEEN DEMAND Extra fat sheep were not in keen demand at Addington Market yesterday, and were cheaper by several shillings a head. Values for the best of the fat hoggets rose by 2s a head. For a smaller but good quality entry of spring lambs there was a considerable appreciation in values. Store sheep and store cattle met with strong competition from large attendances of buyers. With the large yarding, fat cattle were slightly easier all round. In future the weekly sale will be held on Wednesdays. STORE SHEEP The yarding of store sheep was 3051, against 3235 last sale, and comprised 2411 hoggets, 264 ewes and lambs, and 376 wethers. Although wintry conditions prevailed there was a large attendance of buyers and a strong tone prevailed throughout the market. There was a very , keen de* mand for ewe hoggets at prices fully 3s to 4s above last sale. A large line in the wool from the estate of H. J. Harrison (Rakaia) was eagerly competed for, and topped the sale at 107 s a head, with three other pens from the same vendors selling at 105 s, 105 s, and 94s respectively. Shorn ewe hoggets sold from 43s 6d to 50s 6d. The prices for wether hoggets were slightly erratic, and in places were 2s better than last sale. Top price for wether hoggets in the wool was 56s 6d, with other pens selling at 51s to 565. Best shorn wethers ranged up to 51s, medium to good lots 41s to 48s, with others from 31s to 395. There was good competition for the two pens of ewes and lambs at foot, and thev realised 39s and 40s 6d respectively. These sheep were not up to last week’s standard. The 376 wethers were all four-tooths and upwards, and sold freely from 41s 6d •to 49s 6d. These prices were a slight increase on late rates. SPRING LAMBS The spring lamb entry was exactly half of the previous week’s yarding, 54 being penned. The quality, however, was the best so far this season, and this was reflected in the increased prices paid Values were up by fully 5s a head.
