N.Z. MEAT SOLD TO BRITAIN
MINISTRY’S REPLY TO RESELLING CLAIM LONDON. October J. Without the complete text of the claims it was difficult to reply, said a Ministry of Food spokesman, commenting on claims by Mr J. W. Lusty, a Raglan sheepfarmer that meat sent ’o Britain from New Zealand was being sold at a profit by the British Government to other countries. Mr Lusty made the claims when he arrived at Wellington in the Rangitoto on Monday. The spokesman said the Ministry sends meat to Germany for the British Army of the Rhine, and it was quite likely that these supplies included New Zealand meat. Commenting on Mr Lusty’s claim that he had seen New Zealand meat at Nassau, the spokesman said this was probably part of the small percentage of her meat exports which New Zealand does not send to Britain, but with which she is establishing other markets as provided for in the bulk purchase contract with the Ministry.
