FORMER KING OF EGYPT

“Political Crimes” Trial Possible (Rec. 8 p.m.) CAIRO. October 8. An official spokesman said last night that the Egyptian Government was considering trying the former King Farouk for alleged political crimes, including assassinations carried out by his “iron guard,” says the United Press. The Egyptian Government is understood to be investigating charges that King Farouk instigated at least two alleged murders—the assassination of Lieutenant Andel Kader Taha, an Army officer, in March this year, and the assassination of Hassan el Banna, leader of the Moslem Brotherhood, in 1949. The chief of the Political Criminal Investigation Division (Mr Baghat Ahmed Hilmin) said: “There is circumstantial evidence which is being examined by legal authorities. If ths evidence is conclusive the question arises from the constitutional angle whether it would be possible to try the former King.”
