REGULATIONS ON TENANCIES
MINISTER PROMISES AMENDMENT (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 8. The Tenancy Regulations would be amended to overcome the difficulty of landlords of business premises obtaining a reasonable increase in rents to cover increases in rates, repairs, and other outgoings, said the Minister of Labour (Mr W. Sullivan) today. The decision to amend the regulations resulted from Government consideration of a recent judgment of the Full Court, said the Minister. The judgment, which referred to business premises and not dwellinghouses, held that increases in rates, repairs, and other outgoings on the property were not as a general rule “special circumstances.” and could not therefore be used to justify an increase in the basic rent.
