ACCIDENTS
WATERSIDER DIES OF INJURIES STRUCK BY FALLING KEG (New Zealand Press Association) WHANGAREI, October 8. Severely injured when a 2351 b keg of beer fell on him in the hold of the coastal vessel Coronation a week ago, Charles Knowles, a 59-year-old watersider, of Russell, died in the Kawakawa Public Hospital last night. Mr Kriowles was in the hold of the ship when an 18-gallon keg of beer slipped from its sling and crashed back into the ship causing severe injuries to his chest and ribs. He is survived by his wife and eight children. CYCLISTS INJURED Mrs Mary Tocker, of 68 Murray place, suffered head injuries when she was knocked from her bicycle by a car on the corner of Leinster road and Papanui road at 5.15 p.m. yesterday. She was admitted to the Christchui ?i Public Hospital, where her condition last evening was reported to be satisfactory. a ' Maureen Doody, aged 17, of 114 Bishop street, suffered injuries to her hip when her bicycle came into collision with a car on the corner of Bealey avenue and Manchester street at 4 p.m. yesterday. She was taken to the Christchurch Public Hospital, where she admitted. Mrs K. McCarten, of 6 Church lane, was knocked from her bicycle by a car on the corner of Papanui road and Bealey avenue at 6 p.m. yesterday. She was treated in the outpatients’ department of the Christchurch Public Hospital and later sent home.
