MEAT FOR BRITAIN
Sir, —Deeds, not words, count. Will S Smith tell the public what he has done to help Britain in comparison with the farmer and returned men. After five years fighting to save Britain and New Zealand from going under, we returned to find .all the best land had been bought up by town men who had stayed at home. We were given poor, uneconomic land, which will make us scratch all our lives. S. Smith, the Government, and others now expect us to go on helping Britain by giving her our meat at half price. (S. Smith says for nothing.) Too long have the farmers’ wives and children been made slaves to produce cheap food for the lazy town folk, who work only five days a week. Have the towns no responsibility to help Britain. It is appalling what some people call justice.—Yours, etc., JUSTICE FOR ALL. October 7, 1952.
