DEARER FOOD IN BRITAIN
LONDON. October 6. The increases in food prices indicated in the Budget have come into operation. Bacon, gammon, sugar, cheese, margarine. butter, and cooking fats are all dearer. - The increases will be:—margarine, Is 2d to Is 4d per lb; cooking fat, Is 4d to Is 8d per lb; rationed cheese, 2s to'2s 4d per lb: butter, 2s 6d to 3s per lb; sugar, 6d to 7d per lb; bacon, average prices (including gammon), 3s 5d to 3s lOd per lb. Unrationed cooked gammon can be bought at the controlled price of 7s 2d per lb (8s per lb sliced).
