PREPARATION OF WOOL FOR MARKET

Sir,—Much advice has already been written on preparation of wool for market by Mr Henderson, of Lincoln College. An important part, not referred to by him. the part of the fleece wool classed as “necks,” for which there is keen demand. It is really a recently introduced new-named class. Its popularity arises from incompetence in “skirting,” since it deprives the fleece wool or the valuable part of the shoulder wool, connecting to the “necks.” The shoulder wool is recognised by experts to be of very high quality. Part of the neck wool is certainly very deficient and should find a place with the “pieces, according to quality. Further the advantage of the good part of the neck wool" being attached to the fleece, is recognised by the wool sorter, .when he is opening the fleece for division oi quality.—Yours, etc., JAS Belfast, October 6. 1952.
