MISS G. WIDDOWSON HONOURED

RETIREMENT FROM PUBLIC HOSPITAL Miss G. Widdowson, lady superintendent of the Christchurch Public Hospital, who has retired after long service, was bidden farewell by the Friends of the Hospital last evening. The Mayoress, Mrs R. M. Macfarlane. spoke of Miss Widdowson’s long association with the hospital and of her good work for the staff. The president

(Miss Mary McLean) spoke in appreciative terms of Miss Widdowson’s loyal support of the friends since their inception, and wished her happiness in her retirement. The secretary (Mrs Arthur Morten), on behalf pf the friends, presented Miss Widdowson with a bouquet and a handsome rug. In her reply, Miss Widdowson thanked the friends for their co-opera-tion and help, and hoped that thev would continue their valuable work for the hospital. The specially invited guests were the Mayoress, Miss M. Neads, matron of Sunnyside Mental Hospital, Miss Stella Smith, matron of the Jubilee Home, Miss I. Savage, matron of Cashmere Sanatorium, Miss L. Ennis, matron of Burwood Hospital, and representatives of the Red Cross Society, Friends of St. Helens, the Girl Guides and the Townswomen’s Guilds. The musical programme comprised a sketch presented by the drama club of the Mount Pleasant Women’s Institute, and a group of action songs and poi dances presented by the NgatiOtautahi Concert Party arranged by Miss M. Aston, a member of the Christchurch branch of the Maori Women’s Welfare League.
